Rabbi Arie Zeev Raskin is the Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Head of the Rabbinical Court, and Rabbi of the Central Synagogue of Cyprus.
Rabbi Raskin serves as the Chief Rabbi of Cyprus for over 20 years (since 2003) and leads Cyprus’ Jewry with deep faith and absolute dedication.
The official crowning of the Rabbi was performed by then the Chief Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzger and a representative of Rabbi Jonathon Sacks of the UK, rabbis from the Rabbinical Center of Europe (RCE), diplomats and governemnt officials. The ceremony took place inside the synagogue, where Rabbi Raskin was draped with a tallit and officially took on the leadership of the Jewish community in Cyprus.
Since Chief Rabbi Raskin’s arrival, the Jewish community of Cyprus grew massively, currently amounting to approximatley 3,000 families (almost 1% of the population in Cyprus). Together with this growth, new challenges have arised. Chief Rabbi Raskin does his best at representing the Jewish community when meeting with local governement officials and international organizations to adress any issues that the Jewish community may be facing.
Chief Rabbi Raskin works relentlessly on making sure that Jews in Cyprus have ultimate religious freedom and are able to lead a Jewish live fully and without comprimise.
