Synagogue of Nicosia

Synagogues

There are hundreds of Jews and Israelis living in Nicosia today – locals and businessmen alongside students who are studying in the top universities here.

In early 2016 a Synagogue was set up in Nicosia to provide for all the spiritual needs of the local community. It also acts as a meeting place for the local Jewish population to get together and listen to a Torah lesson, pray, and speak to the Rabbi. Rabbi Menachem Mendel Raskin assumed the leadership of the Nicosia Synagogue in the summer of 2019.

The Synagogue provides for all the needs of the Jewish Community: kosher food, prayers and Jewish ceremonies, Torah and Hebrew lessons, communal Shabbat meals, a listening ear and guidance in all things Jewish.

Rabbi’s also head the Prison visitation program. Which provides spiritual and advocacy services for Jewish prisoners, and assistance to their families. Upon their visits, they ensure that each Jewish inmate has his religious needs met.

As Nicosia, the islands capitol houses the largest and most prominent schools of higher education in Cyprus; Rabbi’s in Nicosia have been assigned the islands first ever “Rabbi on Campus” program. With this important mission, we are in constant contact with the many young Jewish students who are studying in Cyprus. Visiting on Friday mornings and holidays, ensuring that each Jewish student has his spiritual needs met as well as appealing for the rights of the students to be able to follow their religious absences without obstacle or Prejudice.
