Israel’s Diaspora Minister Meets Chief Rabbi

The Jewish Community of Cyprus recently had the honor of hosting Israel’s Diaspora Minister, Amichai Chikli, for a meaningful meeting focused on the evolving Jewish presence on the island, fostering diplomatic collaboration, addressing security challenges, and celebrating the deep-rooted bonds between Cyprus and Israel.

Cyprus now boasts an estimated 4,000 Jewish families—a remarkable growth over the past two decades that reflects our community’s resilience and vitality. During the meeting, Minister Chikli met with Chief Rabbi of Cyprus, Rabbi Arie Zeev and other rabbis from cities across Cyprus. Together, they engaged in heartfelt discussions on a range of important topics: from diplomatic initiatives and security challenges to the increasing presence of antisemitism in the region. The dialogue underscored the imperative of creating a safe and nurturing environment that supports every member of our community, while reinforcing the time-honored connection between Cyprus and Israel.

The gathering also shone a light on developments in Jewish education and communal life. Among the topics discussed were the launch of the new King David Jewish School in Larnaca and broader initiatives to enrich Jewish education throughout the island.

The Jewish Community of Cyprus remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening cultural and diplomatic ties with Israel and ensuring the well-being and security of all its members. This meeting reaffirmed our shared values and our ongoing collaboration in addressing the challenges of our time.
